Arusha National Park
With covering just an area of 552 square kilometers, Arusha National park is a small park with lots of diverse wildlife. It is located approximately an hour’s drive from Arusha and ninety minutes drive from Moshi.
There are plenty of destinations to visit in the Arusha National Park. It is home to Mount Meru (the second-highest peak in Tanzania) and Ngurdoto Crater (an extinct volcano). The montane forest and grasslands with the alkaline Momella lakes are also a highlight of this park

- This national park is located on a transition between a mountainous landscape and a city landscape.
- This park shelters the planet’s largest population of African giraffes.
- The unique mammal species that thrive in the national park include the African elephant, Cape buffalo, hippo, wildebeest, and zebras.
- The landscapes of Arusha are dominated by savanna grasslands, acacia scrubland, and lush rainforests.
- The highest summit of Mt Meru which takes pride in being the 5th highest mountain in Africa is often seen pouring fumes. Mount Meru is still an active volcano.
- A highlight of the park is the population of black and white colobus monkeys who perform acrobatics high up on the trees.
- Momella Lakes is remarkable because of its aquatic wildlife and habitats.

- Walking Safaris are permitted in Arusha due to the low number of predators. They are the best way to get a glimpse of the unexplored flora and fauna of the Park under the guidance of a park ranger.
- Canoe Safaris at the Momella Lakes gives the opportunity to explore tranquil waters while looking at the migratory birds and stunning views of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
- Bird watching at Momella Lakes offers a unique experience of spotting majestic pink colonies of flamingoes.
- Try hiking trails in the Park and climb towards Mt. Meru. It is an excellent choice for climbers to go hiking Mt. Meru to acclimatize before attempting to hike Mount Kilimanjaro.
